How do you engage a highly niche, geographically dispersed audience?
Urban resilience represents a city’s capacity to respond to shocks like floods and earthquakes, to social and economic stresses like high unemployment and rapid population growth. With 75% of the world’s population expected to live in cities by 2050, urban resilience is quickly emerging as one of the most urgent issues of our time. Building on years of collaboration, 100 Resilient Cities (100RC), pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation, invited Blue State Digital to help build a program aimed at providing cities around the world with technical support and resources to deliver services to everyone, in both good times and bad.
We collaborated with 100RC to develop a digital strategy and web experience to start conversations and forge connections. By highlighting existing solutions and demonstrating the power of integrated resilience efforts, the site helps connect cities facing similar challenges. We continue to work week-by-week with 100RC now that they have become their own mature organization, to keep an audience of leaders, doers, and influencers actively engaged in spreading the message of resilience around the globe.
A home for innovative solutions
We built the website to serve as a hub for news and activity around the cities, featuring thought-leadership pieces, engaging, shareable content, city profiles, and rich storytelling to educate visitors on the issue.
Storytelling that inspires
From green buildings and infrastructure, to low-carbon transportation and smart water systems, to exciting examples of urban biomimicry, we’re curating and producing stories that bring resilience to life in memorable and meaningful ways. And because the issue touches so many, we’ve also created social content and blog posts that are easy to share—and easy to engage with.
Messages that build momentum
Our email program keeps the growing community connected and aligns larger goals of urban resiliency with relevant events and innovations. Giving readers insight into how resilience efforts impact different industries and areas, from technology to infrastructure to economics, the program aims to empower readers, not just inform them.
