A Salute to our 2006 Victories
Blue State Digital had an unprecedented 20 victories for its clients in 2006-- our first election cycle. Click on some of the buttons below to see how we did.
Winning Wisconsin
Wisconsin won big for Democrats in 2006. The state re-elected Democratic Governor Jim Doyle and Senator Herb Kohl, elected a Democratic majority in the state Senate after four years of Republican control, and narrowed Republican control of the state Assembly for the first time in 16 years. One Wisconsin Now integrated Blue State Digital's tools into its program to empower the people of Wisconsin to fight for a more progressive government.
Big Wins for Arizona Dems
Blue State Digital applauds Governor Napolitano, Congressmembers-Elect Gabrielle Giffords and Harry Mitchell, and the rest of the Arizona Democratic Party for their victories in the midterm elections. Blue State Digital is proud to be a partner in their efforts.
Democratic Governors on the Rise
The Democratic Governors Association had a big night on November 7. With governorships switching parties in six states-Arkansas, Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Ohio-Democrats won back the majority of statehouses for the first time in 12 years. Blue State Digital gave the DGA the online tools to help coordinate that victory, and assisted the organization in developing its Internet strategy. On election night, Blue State Digital was in it for the long haul, updating the site's content as the results came in. We hope that November's victory is the first in a series of victories for the DGA in 2007 and 2008.
Florida Democrats Resurgent
Blue State Digital launched a complete redesign of the Florida Democratic Party website this fall, just in time to help the party make a strong showing in November. But for the FDP, the online campaign isn't over-the Florida Democrats are still using fladems.com to ensure a new election and investigation of the faulty voting machines in FL-13. We're proud to give the Florida Democratic Party the technology it needs to build on its momentum in 2008.
Dean's DNC Wins 50-State Victory
The 50-State Strategy is a resounding success-and Blue State Digital couldn't be happier for Governor Dean and the the Democratic National Committee. During the last election cycle, the Democratic Party received national acclaim for Blue State Digital's groundbreaking tools, and our continuing strategy support for effective online messaging. BSD congratulates the DNC and its hard-working staff and volunteers in all 50 states on innovative and inspiring victories up and down the ballot.
Our New Senate Majority Leader
Blue State Digital is honored to power the online tools for our new Democratic Majority Leader, Harry Reid. GiveEmHellHarry.com provides the Senator with an unparalleled platform for online advocacy and outreach, which Reid leveraged to great effect, helping candidates across the country in 2006. We are honored to be a part of Harry Reid's team as he takes the reigns in the Senate in January.
O'Malley Wins Big in Maryland
Blue State Digital congratulates Governor-Elect Martin O'Malley on his defeat of Republican incumbent Bob Ehrlich in Maryland. The Baltimore Mayor was the only challenger to defeat an incumbent in the statehouses this election cycle. Blue State worked with Team O'Malley starting in June 2005, deploying our suite of tools to bring their plan to move Maryland forward online.
Ohio Elects Brown
Sherrod Brown unseated incumbent Republican Mike DeWine and picked up a U.S. Senate seat for the Democrats. His strong grassroots support helped drive an overwhelming victory. Blue State Digital was happy to answer the call and play a role in helping Senator-Elect Brown's successful online program.
Heartland Pac Drives Wins
We're proud to have worked with Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 2006. Through his Heartland PAC, Blue State Digital created a comprehensive website for gubernatorial, secretary of state, and down-ballot elections-and constructed a strategic messaging plan to draw attention to those often-ignored races. Heartland PAC focused much of its attention on keeping Iowa blue, and BSD worked to help Iowa Democrats elect Chet Culver and take back the state legislature.
Webb Wins!
Blue State Digital congratulates Senator-Elect Jim Webb on his defeat of the Republican incumbent in Virginia. The Webb campaign partnered with Blue State Digital to power his technology for the long haul. From his upset primary victory through his electrifying win in the general election that flipped the U.S. Senate to Democratic control, Webb generated widespread grassroots support across the country, and the Blue State Digital team is proud to have helped.
Winning With Kennedy
Congratulations to Senator Ted Kennedy on his eighth reelection to the United States Senate. Blue State Digital created two online messaging campaigns for the senator: one to coordinate the reelection campaign in Massachusetts, and another national campaign to win back Democratic majorities in the House and Senate. Kennedy raised tens of thousands of dollars for Democratic candidates online-and 75% of those candidates won their races. We look forward to continuing our work with the Senator on his program to put America back on track.
Louise Slaughter Rules
The House won't know what hit it when Louise Slaughter becomes Chairwoman of the Rules Committee in January. As a proud member of the "Slaughter Sluggers" since June 2005, Blue State Digital built Rep. Slaughter a site to lead the charge for honest leadership and open government-and engage with her supporters in New York and across the country.
Growing Our Party in Nebraska
The Nebraska Democratic Party has a lot to celebrate about. Not only did Senator Ben Nelson win reelection, but six of their eight targeted state legislative races went Democratic on Election Day. With the help of the Blue State suite of tools, Nebraska Democrats like Scott Kleeb became national figures-and proved that even in the "reddest" of states Democrats can hold their own. Great things are happening in Nebraska thanks to the state Democratic Party's hard work and leadership.
Turning Colorado Blue
George Bush may have won Colorado in 2004, but the Rocky Mountain state went blue in 2006. Colorado elected a Democratic governor, Bill Ritter, by 15 points, and flipped a seat in the House. Much of that success came from the relentless attention by ProgressNow, who used Blue State's technology suite to wage an unprecedented online grassroots action campaign across the state. With the work of ProgressNow Action, Colorado will stay blue for years to come.
Progress for Ohio
The people of Ohio were ready for change. Just two years after the state's infamous role in the presidential election, Ohio elected Ted Strickland for Governor, Jennifer Brunner for Secretary of State, and Sherrod Brown for Senate. Progress Now Ohio, with help from the Blue State suite, built an online clearinghouse for elections news and activites to give Ohio the progressive leadership it needs.
Rendell Leads Gains in Pennsylvania
On Election Day, Pennsylvania elected a new U.S. Senator, four new Democratic Congressmen, and took back a chamber of the state legislature. The effort was led by Governor Ed Rendell, who was also re-elected thanks to his positive vision and leadership. Blue State Digital was proud to play a role in his online operation.
South Dakota Stands Strong
There were perhaps no higher stakes this election cycle than in South Dakota, where right-wing extremists had taken unprecedented measures to intervene in a woman's right to choose. Faced with a challenge that could have national implications, Blue State Digital helped create StandUpSD.com, the ballot initiative campaign website of the Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund. With ongoing strategy work, Blue State Digital helped StandUpSD.com craft a national message for reproductive rights and build the online resources to make their possible.
Strickland Defeats Blackwell
Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell may have been able to play fast and loose with the electoral process in 2004, but in 2006 he was so resoundingly rejected by Ohio voters that no shenanigans at the polls could help him. Ted Strickland handily defeated Blackwell in the gubernatorial election, winning by a 23.52% margin. Blue State Digital's strategic design and user-friendly tools helped Ted Strickland get his message out, and we're proud to have helped get Ohio back on track.
Vermont Democrats make Huge Gains
The Vermont Democratic Party made dramatic gains on Election Day 2006. Besides working to ensure the victory of now Senator-Elect Bernie Sanders and Representative-Elect Peter Welch to replace him in the U.S. House, Vermont Democrats achieved veto-proof majorities in the both chambers of the state legislature. Blue State Digital has its roots in Vermont, where the four founders met while working for former Vermont Governor Howard Dean's presidential campaign, and we are delighted to continue to assist the party.
Young Democrats Do Vote
24% of young people voted in the 2006 elections - two million more than the last midterm election. 18-29 year olds voted Democratic by a 22% margin, and much of that can be credited to the outreach of the Young Democrats of America. With Blue State Digital's help, YDA was able to turn out the youth vote and build the foundation for a new generation of Democrats.
