Giving Back on Giving Tuesday

Nov 27, 2012

Today, a new tradition emerges to capture the spirit of the holiday season: giving back to our communities. It’s called Giving Tuesday.

Post-Thanksgiving marks the start of spending season with Black Friday and Cyber Monday kicking off the holiday shopping frenzy. But today, a new tradition emerges to capture the spirit of the holiday season: giving back to our communities. It’s called Giving Tuesday, and yeah, there’s a hashtag -- #GivingTuesday.

To quote the Giving Tuesday website: “We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Wouldn’t it be great to have a day for giving back?”

While charitable donations have slipped in recent years due to the struggling economy, Black Friday sales have only increased throughout the years. So organizers at the 92nd Street Y thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if consumers could come out in force to help charities like they do at shopping malls across the country on Black Friday?” And with that, Giving Tuesday was born.

Help us toast to this new tradition by donating to one (or more!) of our fantastic clients and organizations:
