Job: Agency Business Development Associate

Blue State Digital is seeking a Business Development Associate in the New York City or Washington, DC office to support the Business Development team and efforts of the Business Development Directors.
Blue State Digital (BSD) is a strategic consulting and technology firm. We have developed a large platform of software-as-a-service (SAAS) web tools to support online communications programs, which we typically deploy in conjunction with digital marketing services provided by our staff. The Agency Group within BSD provides superior digital marketing services to a variety of clients.
Business Development Associates will be responsible for supporting the Business Development team members, particularly the Business Development Directors. Business Development Associates will work closely with the delivery teams and client management staff to understand strategic and program offerings in order to develop thoughtful proposals for prospective clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting research on different sales verticals, including (but not limited to) nonprofits, cultural and academic institutions, charitable organizations, corporations, brands, unions and trade associations, political campaigns, public affairs groups, and entertainment (film, theater, music).
- Attending new business meetings and determining potential business opportunities
- Participating in the brainstorm process, which includes working with BSD's Concept Director to organize brainstorm agendas, aggregating follow up pitch materials, and drafting any corresponding proposal materials
- Collaborating with deliverable teams throughout the organization to assemble scopes of work and program details for proposals
- Writing client proposals that communicate Blue State Digital's value proposition to prospective clients in a manner appropriate for the target audience
- Preparing materials (presentations, outlines, proposals) in Keynote, PowerPoint, Pages, Word and more (for internal and pitch meetings)
- Managing a database of prospects and clients in Salesforce.com Customer Relationship Management System
Required Qualifications
- College diploma or university degree
- Experience working within the Academic/Cultural, Non-Profit, or Corporate vertical, particularly within departments such as digital and communications, either inside a relevant corporation or institution, at an agency, or as a vendor or service provider
- Strong written skills, preferably with experience in preparing creative program briefs and thorough business proposals
- Exceptional organizational skills to monitor various internal tasks, written assignments, and other deliverables
- Should work well in a team environment and be able to synthesize information from meetings, brainstorms, and presentations into detailed proposals, briefs, and other written documents
You will be based in our New York or Washington D.C. office and report to Rich Mintz (VP of Agency Sales) and Matt Thompson (AVP Business Development). Travel to Blue State Digital's other offices or customer locations may be required as part of your responsibilities.
