Job: Associate Designer, Washington, DC

Blue State Digital (BSD), a strategic consulting and technology firm, seeks creative individuals with a passion for all things digital to support the execution and delivery of outstanding design – both online and off. Past and current clients include The Nature Conservancy, Barackobama.com, The Film Society at Lincoln Center, Surfrider, The Sundance Institute and Film Festival, The NAACP, and The Rockefeller Foundation.

Candidates must be passionate about design, and demonstrate versatility, resourcefulness and experience on a wide range of design projects, from websites and presentations to identity and proposal design.

We are looking for creative problem solvers whose instincts run towards solving client goals through positive user experience and solid aesthetic judgement. This position is not entry level, but we do welcome applicants who might be looking to make their first move beyond standard advertising or political work.

The position is located in Washington DC.

Key Responsibilities

Primary

• Provide design support for (and eventually lead design of) large design projects
• Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, and present work when needed
• Design presentations and proposals for existing and potential clients
• Design email and website graphics
• Contribute ideas to projects and actively participate in team meetings

Secondary

• Attend, document, and generate action items emerging from client and team meetings
• Conduct first-pass QA on design deliverables from the team
• Help other internal teams in the proper use of Apple Keynote and Pages

Required Qualifications

• A strong desire to do awesome work alongside great coworkers, for good people doing interesting things.
• Ability to collaborate, multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment
• BA or BFA degree in a design related field
• An online portfolio of work
• Advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator
• Intermediate knowledge of Apple Keynote and Pages, Microsoft Powerpoint and Word
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript
• One to two years of both online and print design experience
• A passion for design and digital media, and a willingness to learn
• Ability to travel occasionally
