Job: Linux System Administrator

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Blue State Digital (BSD), a strategic consulting and technology firm, seeks a Linux System Administrator for its Boston location. We deliver cutting edge technology and new media strategy to our clients in the Political, Non-Profit, and Corporate sectors. The Linux System Administrators are responsible for managing the components of Blue State Digital's back-end hosting infrastructure.

Blue State Digital, founded in 2004, provides communications strategy and technology services to political, non-profit advocacy and select corporate clients. A selection of current clients include: The Democratic National Committee (DNC), Obama for President, SEIU, Sundance Film Festival, Open Society Institute, AT&T and many other individual candidates, organizations and corporations.

We are committed to crafting and implementing custom Internet strategies that produce results – online and off. We have first-hand experience delivering innovative solutions -- creating new communication channels, shattering fundraising records, and organizing people in new ways.

BSD currently has offices in Washington DC, Boston, MA, New York, NY, and London, UK. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of 4 years academic, professional or other experience with one or more distributions of Linux.
• Must be extremely comfortable with Linux installation, configuration and performance tuning.
• Strong experience with "LAMP" environments.
• Excellent Perl and/or shell scripting experience.
• Experience with clustered or load-balanced environments preferred.
• Experience with PCI-DSS compliance is a plus.
• Strong written communication skills are important, as this job will involve writing documentation.
• Highly self-motivated. Always looking for opportunities to make things better.
• Desire to make a difference in politics and advance the role the Internet plays in the political process.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Install, maintain and evolve our infrastructure of web, database and mail servers .
• Develop tools and scripts to help with server management, provisioning and monitoring.
• This position includes an "on-call" rotation, requiring work off-hours and under deadline.
• The system administrators work closely with the software development and client services teams in support of our clients' needs.
