Rapid Response in Haiti

In the wake of the catastrophic earthquake that has devastated Port-au-Prince, organizations around the world have leaped into action to help Haiti on the ground and over the Internet. The American Red Cross and Partners in Health are asking for donations to increase the level of support they're already providing in Haiti.

To help deliver extra food, water, and other relief to the millions of Haitians affected by the disaster, the Red Cross has pledged an initial $200,000 from its International Response Fund. In its appeal, the Red Cross says that "the first 48 hours are absolutely critical to save lives."

Partners in Health is a health care and advocacy organization that provides services in more than a dozen developing countries, including nine clinics in Haiti. The organization is mobilizing resources to bring medical assistance and supplies to the parts of Port-au-Prince that need it most. In a message to its email list, Partners in Health forwarded an anguished note that its clinic director in Haiti sent to headquarters immediately after the earthquake:

"Port-au-Prince is devastated, lots of deaths. SOS. SOS… Temporary field hospital by us at UNDP needs supplies, pain meds, bandages. Please help us."

The American Red Cross and Partners in Health are Blue State Digital clients. Please help if you can.
