Coalition for the Homeless Launches New Site
As the temperature drops this winter, organizations are working around the clock to help the most vulnerable members of our communities. This week, the Coalition for the Homeless, the oldest advocacy and direct service organization for the homeless in the country, launched a new website with a helping hand from Blue State Digital.
The Coalition for the Homeless, based in New York, has been running shelters and other programs for homeless people since 1981. Their efforts range from food distribution and rental assistance to eviction prevention and job training.
Blue State Digital’s Yaser Ahmed found the project especially rewarding:
"I live in Washington, DC, and I see homeless people in my own neighborhood every day. And the combination of the economic crisis and the onset of winter has made things a lot worse for homeless people here in DC, in New York, and around the country. I really appreciated being able to work on this project — by helping to publicize the Coalition's services, and to build a network of politically active people who will support and defend and fund them, I feel like I'm making a difference for people who need it most."
Unfortunately, the work is far from over: Homelessness in New York City has reached its highest levels since the 1930s. This holiday season, take a moment to give some attention to this important cause, because no one deserves to be without a home — especially during the holidays.
