BSD’s McGregor Published in British Book About the 2008 U.S. Election
Matthew McGregor, Director of Blue State Digital's London Office, authored a chapter in the recently published book The Change We Need - What Britain can learn from Obama's victory.
According to the book's website, the goal of this book was "to try to understand what [the 2008 US election] means for the future of political participation and for progressive campaigning and political involvement in Britain."
Prime Minister Gordon Brown penned the forward for the book. Other authors include: Congressman Glenn Nye, Faiz Shakir, research director at Center for American Progress, and David Lammy MP.
McGregor's chapter is called "The democratising force of fundraising." He discussed the impact he hopes the book will have on British campaigns in the future:
"British parties are very focused on learning the lessons of Barack Obama's amazing victory. There's no sense is cutting and pasting but there are so many examples to follow that this book is a really important contribution.
"The big lesson is that parties can be more open, and build movements that help them connect with people, and win. Its a lesson we're keen to help the good guys take on in Europe so we can keep conservatives out of power."
The book was published by the Fabian Society, an independent progressive think tank that focuses on "analysing the key challenges facing the UK and the rest of the industrialised world in a changing society and global economy... [and] explore the political ideas and policy reforms which will define progressive politics in the new century." The Change We Need was edited by Nick Anstead and Will Straw who are carving a role in Britain as experts on the 2008 election.
