American Progress Action Fund's ThinkProgress.org
The American Progress Action Fund — an arm of the Center for American Progress (CAP), a leading progressive think tank — saw an opportunity to increase its standing by joining the blogosphere. CAP decided that a rapid-response blog would make the largest splash — and asked Blue State Digital to make its vision a reality.
Blue State Digital and CAP developed a strategy that played to CAP's strengths. Blue State Digital took open-source software, and made custom changes that freed the CAP team to publish its work without technical hassles. We enhanced that foundation with a design that, by providing a showcase for CAP's talented staff, lets readers tap into CAP's deep knowledge of politics in real time.
The site, dubbed Think Progress, launched in late January to monstrous acclaim. The team kicked it off in high style, with CAP president and Clinton administration chief of staff John Podesta using the site for live coverage of the State of the Union address and within hours, Think Progress received thousands of visitors, hundreds of comments, over 150 incoming links, and a rave from Air America Radio.
